THE HIKE HAS ALL THE HALLMARKS OF A FUNDRAISING EVENT, BUT IT IS SO
MUCH MORE.
As a signature event for the hospice, the annual hike encourages families and loved ones to gather, celebrate their loved ones’ lives, and continue their healing journey. It also allows hospice staff to see familiar faces and thank them in person for their generous support.
On Saturday, June 1, Carpenter Hospice will host its annual hike. Participants will spend the morning walking the five-kilometre planned route around the neighbourhood with staff, volunteers, families, and supporters. Registration is open now at www.thecarpenterhospice.com/hike.
All four Rotary Clubs of Burlington will act as the presenting sponsor for the event, which they have done for many years. “We are honoured each year by the support of our participants, volunteers, sponsors, community partners, and donors,” said John Gilbert, manager of fund development at Carpenter Hospice.
“To ensure our services are free of cost, we annually raise funds to provide home-cooked meals for our residents, counselling and wellness programs, and ongoing upkeep of our facilities,” said Kim Pearson, executive director of Carpenter Hospice.
Among the activities on June 1, the Memorial Quilt has become a beautiful tradition. The Halton Quilters Guild has partnered with the hospice to provide the necessary materials to capture messages in memory of loved ones on a small fabric square. Following the hike, the guild will assemble the quilt, which will later be displayed in the hospice.
Like creating a quilt, providing compassionate palliative care is more than the sum of its parts. It is the work of many hands collectively supporting moments that matter.
