LaSalle Marina is a great place to see ducks during the winter months, including many species such as the Canvasback that have migrated south for the winter.
Canvasbacks are large, flashy diving ducks with the males showing a lot of contrast between their pale gray bodies, black breasts and tails, and reddish-brown heads and red eyes. This photo shows four males and one female, which are drabber than the males, like most bird species, on the right in the foreground.
About Bob:
Robert (Bob) Bell is an exploration geologist who had to retire after contracting Lyme disease.
