The food trucks began arriving before 10 a.m. for the Burlington Food Truck Festival, to begin this evening, Fri., July 21, at 5 p.m.
Set up of chairs, tents, and supplies is well underway, from stacks of potatoes to fuel cans for grills. Donations will be collected for the Joseph Brant Hospital Foundation.
The organizers, Canadian Food Truck Festivals, were on hand to direct traffic, and excited to get the event underway. We asked about the eating challenges, and they said to expect corn, ice cream, and “spicy box” eating contests, with contestants trying to eat as quickly as possible (rather than vast quantities; no one wants a real-life scene reminiscent of that in Stand By Me). These contests are “a lot of fun…[with the corn-eating contest] people tend to eat like squirrels,” nibbling quickly along the cobs.
