Aldershot’s CAMA Woodlands Long Term Care Home unveiled its new wheelchair van today with the Aldershot Lions Club joining in the celebration.
Aldershot Lions donated $10,000 toward the ongoing cost of operating the new van.
CAMA will use the van to transport residents to various medical and other appointments around Burlington and Hamilton. The new vehicle, which holds two wheeled chairs, was inaugurated on the weekend when one elderly resident required transportation to a family wedding at Balls Falls.
Fundraising for the van project has involved residents at the home, family members, the Flamborough branch of One Hundred Women Who Care, and others. The Lions’ contribution followed their highly successful fundraising BBQ at the annual Burlington Gymnastics Club Spring Cup event in May.
The ongoing cost of operating the van is expected to be covered by continuing donations, the home’s annual golf tournament, its Grand Parade event, and individual sponsors. The Aldershot Lions Club has been supporting its community for nearly 70 years and donates thousands of dollars to local causes.
