With snow on the ground and crisp wind in the air, the Carpenter Hospice brought the sounds and feels of a magical night in paradise to the Burlington Convention Centre. Hosted last month, Burlington’s local hospice celebrated its 20th anniversary with a Paradise Island-themed fundraising gala.

Bringing the sounds of the islands, the gala featured a steel drum trio, the Kenn Lewis Band, and later a DJ to wrap up the evening. Layne “The Auctionista” helped kick-start the live auction with a slew of wonderful prizes — from luxury nights-out to travel adventures. For those unable to attend, an online auction was also made available.

The island vibes didn’t stop there. The food and drinks were carefully curated to bring a truly island-feel to the night: refreshing mojitos, jerk chicken, and mango all made their flavour debut. Both Walker’s Chocolates and Monfriese Rum Cakes complemented the meals beautifully.

The Paradise Island netted over $160,000. These funds will go towards the programs and care offered at the Carpenter Hospice.

Since opening its doors in 2002, the hospice has grown to 11 beds and has welcomed over 3,000 people. They also offer support to those grieving life-limiting illnesses with community-based programs and services. All of their programs and services are offered at no cost, which makes it a special place to have in our very own community.
