Just days ahead of International Women’s Day on March 8, Burlington’s Ardelle Steuernol joined a rare group of iconic literary women to hit their writing stride later in life by becoming a published author at the age of 83.
With the help of her grandson, Steuernol published a decades-long novel inspired in-part by a trip she took with her late husband through the mountains of British Columbia. Putting pen to paper she writes of two girls’ tenacity of spirit and overcoming struggles against all odds.
“All my life I’ve been shaped and inspired by extraordinary female authors whose past writing struggles are still evident today,” says Steuernol. “Not only am I proud to have not given up on my dream of being an author but of telling a story that centers around female characters.”
Growing up in Howick Township, Ontario, Steuernol’s life was shaped by uncovering and documenting stories. Her book titled, Secrets of Moor Mountain, is available now.
