In the works for over a year, construction on the Burlington Canal Lift Bridge is now underway, resulting in its closure until March 20, 2023.
In this phase of the work, the bridge’s lift span deck is being replaced, rendering the bridge unusable for drivers, pedestrians, cyclists, and marine users.
The next phase, where construction will widen parts of the sidewalk to allow for cyclists and pedestrians to pass each other more safely and rehabilitate the approach spans, is set to begin in April of this year and continue to October 2023. The bridge will be open for this phase of work, though there will be lane restrictions for vehicles, and cyclists and pedestrians will be given directions by workers to safely cross.
