Controversial Halton Catholic District School Board trustee Vince Iantomasi has been defeated. Nineteen-year-old Kirsten Kelly has won the Burlington Wards 1 and 2 seat on the Halton Catholic board.
Kelly initially gained attention when they started an online petition to convince the school board to fly the Pride flag. The petition received 25,000 signatures contributing to the board’s eventual decision to display the flag.
Kelly is a former student trustee. They were backed by an organization called the Halton Parents for Change which strongly objected to Iantomasi’s conduct at the board.
Iantomasi opposed flying the Pride flag and earlier this year he was suspended from attending board meetings based on reports that his behaviour constituted as many as 25 breaches of the board’s Code of Conduct.
