Aldershot has lost an iconic figure. Reg Bullock was big in stature and even bigger in heart. He was a former Burlington Citizen of Year, a member of the Aldershot Community Honour Roll and several times president of the Aldershot Lions Club.
Bullock died today. He was 93.
Reg Bullock spent a lifetime in Aldershot contributing in many, many ways. He was an active member of East Plains United Church. He was with the Lions Club for over 60 years, frequently leading the group through a variety of projects to raise funds for charitable causes and community projects.
Always interested in history, Reg organized and led many historic tours of Aldershot. In his later years, he wrote a well-received book about the long history of his family in Aldershot.
“My parents, Theo James Bullock and Nellie Julia Evans were married on February 1, 1928 and settled into a frame, two-storey house on the Bullock farm in Aldershot, directly across from East Plains United Church. I was born in 1929, the first of five siblings.”
The 21-acre Bullock farm stretching along Plains Road became famous in Aldershot partly due to its delicious fruit stand.
“When I was little, Dad had a team of horses named Peggy and Bess for working the land. In the late 1930s we got our first tractor.”
Later in life, he became a volunteer with the War Plane Heritage Museum.
Reg was married to his beloved wife Marg for 67 years until her death in 2018. Marg was a former school trustee and also a member of the Aldershot Community Honour Roll. Together, they made a great team.
A celebration of life is expected after Labour Day.
