Editor’s note: we’re very excited to be working with the Burlington Humane Society to give you stories of some of the pets they have available for adoption. If you fall in love and want to adopt one of the pets featured, go to the Adopt a Cat or Kitten or the Adopt a Dog or Puppy page on their website for more information on how to proceed.
Spock is a favourite around the shelter. Spock is almost four years old. He’s been with us almost 300 days now, making him one of our longest-standing shelter residents, and we just can’t understand why! He is gorgeous, affectionate, and playful; all of this despite having a bit of a rough start to his life.
He came to us as a transfer from a Quebec shelter, and was dehydrated, had ear mites, conjunctivitis, and an upper respiratory infection. He also had a collapsed lung. Despite all of that, he is still sweet and social. He has a private catio here at the shelter, and he loves to go out and play through the bars with the dogs while they’re out for their play time, so we anticipate he’d be just fine in a home with other pets.
He was on quite a lot of medications for quite a long time due to his health when he arrived in Burlington, but he is now weaned down to 1/2 a pill every other day, and an inhaler twice a day. He is great about taking his medications and they are not very expensive.
Spock would be sent to a home as a foster-to-adopt cat, which means that you get all the benefits of adopting while we still pay for his vet bills and medications until our shelter vet clears him for adoption! How’s that for a win-win situation?
