Looking for more information about the upcoming federal election? Check out https://www.elections.ca/ to find out if you are on the voters list, if you’re on the list under your current address, and to use the Voter Information Service provided. It’s very helpful. Where to vote and the names of your local candidates are two of the questions answered. Elections Canada is an independent non-partisan agency responsible for conducting federal elections.

There are four ways to vote in the upcoming election. Choose the one that works best for you.

Before September 14 at 6 p.m., you can vote at any Elections Canada office. For me, the closest one is located at 2051 Plains Road East, at the Ontario Court Services building. Hours are Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Sunday, 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Advance polls will be open from Friday, September 10, to Monday, September 13, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. You will need to vote at your assigned polling station.

You can vote by mail if you are part of a vulnerable population or will be away from your riding during advance and election day polls. Apply before September 14 at 6 p.m. online or at any Elections Canada office. The team will send your voting kit as soon as possible, typically up to 72 hours later. Your special ballot must be returned by election day. Once you have applied to vote by special ballot, you cannot change your mind and vote at advance polls or on election day.

On election day, Monday, September 20, you can vote from 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. You will need to vote at your assigned polling station.

Burlington’s local-news.ca team encourages Canadian citizens who are 18 years old or older on election day to be sure you’re on the voters list and vote for the candidate of your choice. It’s our right and our responsibility to choose our elected representatives.

The elections.ca site says to “Plan early. During a pandemic, things can take a bit more time. Make a plan and choose the voting option that works best for you.”
