On Wednesday, June 9, the Audit Committee will consider reports from finance department staff about the external audit results for 2020 and the audited consolidated financial statements. In report F-19-21, there is a comment that “a significant component of the City’s accumulated surplus is the investment in Burlington Enterprises Corporation (formerly Burlington Hydro Electric Inc.).” The agenda for the meeting also includes a report from the city clerk recommending a subcommittee of one council member and two community members to review the Audit Committee terms of reference.
On Thursday, June 10, the Environment, Infrastructure and Community Services Committee will consider the Cootes to Escarpment EcoPark System strategic plan, assumption of the Forest Creek Estates subdivision, an amendment to the corporate donations and sponsorship policy, and amendments to rates and fees for school board amenities and gyms. There is a report about the removal of a city-owned tree on Princess Blvd. and $500.00 compensation for the city to plant a new tree elsewhere in the city. It was interesting to the writer of this article that the permit fee for removal of the tree costs $680.00 plus HST ($88.40) while the compensation for the tree itself is $500.00. There are two reports on this agenda related to the city’s private tree bylaw 02-2020: report RFF-19-21 and RPF-07-21. The second of these reports provides a replacement bylaw and changes to rates and fees.
An update to the climate action plan is included, including funds to support the electric/electricity mobility strategy. A report adding to the 2021 local road resurfacing program is on the agenda and one confidential item about “a proposed or pending acquisition or disposition of land by the municipality or local board.”
On Tuesday, June 15, the Community Planning, Regulation and Mobility Committee is expected to meet, but that agenda is not yet posted online.
The regular council meeting to consider the recommendations from these committee meetings will be held on Tuesday, June 22.
